_Born
August 29th, Troy Guy was pretty much already in the music industry.
Both parents were musicians and singers in their generation, which
evolved into Troy’s success. At age 8, he sang in a talent show for
school and won 1st place. At age 11, he started taking drum lessons and
voice lessons that made him musically inclined today. He plays piano by
hearing the music first and mimicking the music
afterwards. He ventured in the freestyle music in 1988 and wrote and
produced the song “Forever Amor”. Originally it was named “Don’t Pass Up
My Love” and teamed up with Erik Gorder (Here I Go Again). First was
introduced to Mark Imperial (J’dore Dancer) which intern changed the
title of the song from Don’t Pass Up My Love to Forever Amor. Then
Mickey ‘Mixin’ Oliver (Chicago D.J.), which brought about the female
vocalist which then created the group “In-Effect”. Afterwards, Troy Guy
went solo and signed to DJ International Records/Atlantic Records and
found Andrea Salazar. He then created a new group that people know now
as “D’ZYRE”.
Troy Guy is now a soloist and still produces and performs everywhere he is asked to. He has written songs like Forever Amor, Games of Love, Inside Your Love and more. Now, he is currently working on his album consisting of R&B and Hip-Hop. He still produces and sings Freestyle music, but with a different feel to the beat. He feels that old school freestyle is great, but since the audience has changed, he feels that freestyle music has to come out stronger and more powerful than before. A new twist to the music or singing will bring it back.
Troy has accomplished many accolades in the past. Forever Amor hit as high as # 43 with a bullet in the top 100 billboard charts and #1 for 3 weeks straight in the Chicago Radio Station B96. #1 in the top dance charts for 4 weeks in a row. A once known rising star coming out of Chicago and the first freestyle artist to come out of Chicago topping the charts.
Troy Guy has performed with many of the great freestyle legends like: George LaMond, Cynthia, Lil Suzy, TKA, Coro, Judy Torres, Miguel Reyes, Legacy, Lisette Melendez, Suave, Rochelle, Nocera, Hanson, Nu Image, Johnny O. and many more. He would like to thank all the DJ’s that has help contributed in his success in the music industry like: Tim ‘Spinnin’ Schomer, Julian Perez, Harv Roman and many more to name. As far as the DJ’s nowadays, DJ Solito, DJ Lex, Judy Torres and everyone that is keeping freestyle alive through radio/internet.
His major influences in the music industry were Michael Jackson (which by the way has the same birthday as him). Johnny Gill, Luther Vandross, Howard Hewitt, Whitney Houston and Patti LaBelle. As a producer, he idolizes Baby Face Edmonds, Teddy Riley, Quincy Jones, and Pharell.
Troy Guy has tremendous talent that whenever he performs, he gives it his all and lets his fans know it. His music success is all due to the devoted fans that lived every bit of ever
